Chateau Lynch Bages is one of the best-known Medoc estates. Since 1973, it has been owned by the famous Jean-Michel Cazes and is now run by his son, Jean-Charles.
The 100-hectare vineyard is planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is about 30 years old. But they have old vines, some of which are close to 90 years old.
The reds are powerful, structured, fruit driven and long-lived, as Oz Clarke once said "Lynch Bages is impressive at five years, beautiful at ten years and irresistible at twenty."
In addition to making renowned wines from Lynch-Bages, the Cazes family also owns Ormes de Pez since 1940s, producing classic St Estephe wines with the same care and attention as those from Lynch-Bages.
