Vietti Barolo Castiglione 2015
In Barolo, the debate continues! Traditionalists see themselves as the guardians of authentic Barolo; modernists want to make great wine in new ways. Renowned producer Vietti does both! For wine ageing, they use both barriques and traditional large-sized ‘botti’: the former to aid oxygenation, and the latter to help build structure.
Vietti Barolo Castinglione is named after Castiglione Falletto, the commune in which the winery is located, but contains grapes from a dozen of the area’s top vineyards including Bricco, Bussia, and Ravera. It is thus a consistent expression of Barolo, and of fantastic value. The 2015 is beautifully lively with a succulent palate, powerful structure, classic smoke and rose aromas, and a firm fruit finish.
