Made under the direction of winemaker Martha McClellan and consultant Michel Rolland, this full-bodied effort broods behind scents of camphor, black cherries, raspberries and dark chocolate. Densely concentrated, almost fudge or cake-like, it does have just enough freshness to keep it on the rails and bring it home into a long, remarkably lively finish. RP

Asterisk Proprietary Red 2014
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Asterisk is a little closed to begin, slowly revealing blackberry pie, baked blackcurrants and mulberries on the nose with nuances of redcurrant jelly, tobacco and lavender with hints of underbrush and pencil lead. Full-bodied and with a rock-solid backbone of very firm, wonderfully ripe, grainy tannins, the palate has oodles of freshness and impressive depth, finishing long and minerally. RP

Asterisk Proprietary Red 2015
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Asterisk comes charging out of the gate with exuberant black and red cherries, warm cassis and raspberry pie scents plus hints of cigar box, Indian spices, rose hip tea and charcuterie with a faint waft of dusty soil. Full-bodied and firmly textured, with bags of red and black fruits, the palate is laced with loads of spicy accents, and it finishes long and perfumed. RP

Asterisk Proprietary Red 2018
Deep garnet-purple colored, vibrant black raspberries, black cherries and cassis notes jump from the nose of the 2018 Asterisk, followed by hints of chocolate mint and violets. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it fills the mouth with cedar-laced black fruits with a firm, grainy frame and just enough freshness, finishing on a lingering woody note. RP
