    About Professional Wine Ratings
A wine score is the quickest, simplest way for a wine critic to communicate their opinion about the quality of a wine. Professional wine rating scores from a wide range of critics, for example Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator, are usually adjusted for the 100-point scale. A mean of these scores is presented for specific vintages of a wine, as well as across all vintages.

    Food Match
A good marriage of food and wine ideally provides more pleasure than enjoying either one separately. As each of us have different sensitivities to various flavours and preferences, the definition of 'perfect pairing' varies, and this makes up the fun part of food and wine pairing.

The 2009 Ironstone Pressings GSM is a blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Shiraz and 5% Mourvedre (planted in 1918). Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is just a little restrained, offering notes of earth and tar over dark chocolate, blueberries and black cherries plus a whiff of prunes. The full bodied palate is wonderfully concentrated and structured with tons of savory fruit balanced by crisp acidity and a firm level of chewy tannins. Its finish is long and layered. Drink it 2013 to 2022+. RP

Matured in used French (81%) and American (19%) oak for 12 months. Deep crimson-purple,unmatched by virtually any Barossa Valley GSM; the alcohol, too,is strikingly low in GSM terms, then there is the powerful array of red and black fruits. Good now,but will be better still in 2+ years. This is a unique style, patented - so it seems - by d'Arenberg. JH

Composed of Grenache (55%), Shiraz (38%) and Mourvedre (7%), the 2008 The Ironstone Pressings GSM has a medium garnet-purple color and rubber and tar notes giving way to black currant cordial, blackberry juice, black raspberry, star anise and dried Mediterranean herbs. Full, voluptuous and generously fruited, it has medium-firm fine-grained tannins and crisp acid to support, finishing with good persistence. Approachable now, it should drink well to 2018. RP
