Italy’s sparkling wines might be dominated by crispy and fruity Prosecco, but the real gem is the spumante made in traditional method in Franciacorta, a region located close to the metropolitan city of Milan. The wines are smooth and complex, with lees ageing of a minimum of 18 months, longer than its French counterpart Champagne.
