We are pleased to invite you to a wine workshop featuring all of the 1er Grands Crus Classés from Bordeaux, namely Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild, Latour, Margaux and Haut-Brion.
First Growths (1er Grands Crus Classés) can simply be considered the best wines from Bordeaux, with their historical importance, exceptional quality and longevity. In 1855, the left-bank châteaux were classified into five levels, with the First Growths on the top rank. After a century in 1973, Château Mouton Rothschild became the only one ever to have been promoted to the First Growths, to make up the 5 top and exceptional labels within the classification.
The history of Bordeaux’s second wines can trace back to the 17th Century, and Château Margaux was the pioneer to debut a second label. The second wines, often considered as the "little brothers" of the Grands Vins, are made from the grapes of the younger vines and the second selection of the vintage. In exceptional years, they can be of first-class qulity that outrate the Grand Vins from other vintages. In the evening, you will be the judge to decide whether the vineyard selection or the vintage is more important to the quality of a wine.
