All About Balance: Bordeaux 2016
Bordeaux 2016 was met with excitement, particularly on the Left Bank, where several estates even surpassed the quality of their 2015s. Long ripening through September and October particularly benefitted Cabernet Sauvignon.
This vintage is all about balance, showing freshness and concentration with ripe fruit but firm acidity; and marked but super-fine tannins. Impressive wines are to be found from across the Medoc, and “lesser” categories including second wines and Crus Bourgeois also performed exceptionally well. Let’s check them out.

He has won great acclaim for the 2016: a fantastic showing for Talbot. It imparts classic St-Julien sophistication, combined with density and richness.
This 2016 includes 40% Merlot against 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, which represents a higher proportion of Merlot than usual for the château. The result is ripe-fruit aromas, a round and supple palate, silky tannins and, above all, approachability.
