This has instantly appealing, fresh and brambly red to dark-cherry aromas with alluringly spicy oak and a hint of reductive tension. Some cranberry, too. The palate has supple and open-knit tannins that wrap the fresh raspberries and red cherries so neatly. Opens to a smooth and creamy texture. Impressive. JS
Bright ruby with a lifted, instantly appealing nose of spiced red cherry, red plum and raspberry fruits. Hints of exotic spice, turned leaf litter, charcuterie, amaro, mushroom broth, crushed stone, dried citrus rind and wildflowers. There's a concentration and fruit sweetness here that will win many a fan, but there is complexity and nuance, too, and I can see this being a real crowd-pleaser. It's delicious. JH

The Derwent and Coal River valleys provide the fruit source for this year's release, which shows bright, lively wild strawberry, raspberry and dark cherry fruit tones with hints of exotic spice, sous bois, shiitake broth, roasting game and earth. Impressive fruit intensity on the palate, plenty of minerally drive and gentle chalky tannins that show more muscle as the wine fades away, pure of fruit and long. JH
