A co-fermented 94/6% blend. The hue is good, although not deep - pinotish. Tim Kirk nails it when he writes of a line of pure spice running through the bouquet and palate - I would simply add ‘and the aftertaste' because this has superb length and texture, replete with red berry flavours. Clonakilla at its best. JH

Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz Viognier is scented of fresh red and black plums, wild blueberries and nuances of violets, pepper, cloves and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with seductive, velvety textured fruit before finishing long and layered. Drink it now to 2024+. RP

It's voluminous without being weighty, fruity and savory, with licorice, pepper and meaty notes on the long, silky finish. The bright hue and perfumed, spicy red berry bouquet run true to type for this modern classic, setting the bar for the co-fermented blend many years ago. It has a set of flavours that are unique, and can fool even expert tasters in blind tastings, its cross-thatched flavours need careful navigation to decide whether it's from Cote Rotie or Canberra. Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier 2011
Containing 5% co-fermented Viognier, the 2011 Shiraz/Viognier displays a pale to medium garnet-purple color and notes of red and black cherries, red currants and peppered salami with touches of rose petals and forest floor. Light to medium-bodied, it gives a good density of flavor in the mouth packed into a very fine frame of low to medium level rounded tannins and balanced acid, finishing just a little shorter than I’ve coming to expect from this label. Still a bit tight-knit and primary, consider drinking this 2014 to 2024+. RP

Tim Kirk's Socratean dissatisfaction has led to changes in the vineyard and winery alike. One particular change is the increase in the percentage of whole bunches, resulting in even greater perfume and more texture, yet leaving the mouth fresh. Spices are embroidered on the red fruits with unequalled attention to detail. JH
