A unique riesling made from clone 110, which gives powerful aromas of lemon peel, gun smoke, orange blossoms and river stones. The palate is medium-bodied with laser-like acidity and a generous mouthfeel that has filled out from nine months on the lees before bottling. Notes of grapefruit pith, flint, fresh ginger and lime zest linger in the long finish. Excellent.
On the nose, there is lime pith, jasmine blossoms, dried saffron curls, matcha, honeysuckle, crushed shells, cilantro and a hint of toasted cumin seeds. This is an altogether restrained (and toasty) wine. The phenolics in the mouth urge a gentle mastication, and this continues after the wine has gone. It has a lovely texture, the stuff to ruminate upon. I like it a lot a lot. It's quiet, but its persistent. 12.9% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. RP
Streamlined, long, lingering rivulets of spicy, almost austere riesling. It has integrity, shape and line, punctuated by detailed nuance and poise. It is spicy – even tense in its disposition – layered with nutmeg, spring flowers, brine, green apple skins, crushed limestone, mineral slate, snow pea tendril and even lemongrass. It is enigmatic, statuesque and epic in every way. JH
Produced from a single riesling clone grown in the Grosset Rockwood Vineyard, organic and biodynamic certified, and given extended time on lees, its aromas appear restrained yet they are powerful, complex and multi-layered: with subtle lemony citrus to the fore. The flavours are juicy, fresh, lively and persistent with lemon and white stone fruit flavours and creamy complexity contributing to a seamless mouthfeel. The flavour builds to a finish which is long, pure and dry.
