Dark red cherries, blood orange and zest with sumac and brown spices plus fresh herbs and a pinch of Italian bitter herbs, too. It’s a savoury wine. Tannins and acidity work in tandem to add definition across the mid-weighted palate. JH
The darkest hue and the richest flavours of all the Downie pinots on offer, featuring the regional black cherry flavour and density across the palate yet all neatly contained. Some forest floor and wood spice in the mix, a little charred radicchio but sweet/tangy fruit throughout. Tannins are soft, supple and matched to a juiciness across the palate, making this approachable in its youth. JH
