Aristos Baron D'A Red Blend 2016

Savory plums, cassis, leather, iron, some dusty berries and sweet tobacco leaves. Medium-bodied on the palate with lots of juicy yet savory fruit. Restrained and almost old-world like, with silky, polished tannins and lots of plummy fruit in the lengthy, subtle finish. Nicely tertiary. JS

The blend for the 2014 Barón D'A is quite different and less classical than in the past, with some 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% each of Petite Sirah, Malbec and Carignan, which marks a complete change in style compared with previous years. This is more Mediterranean and ripe, despite the wine having less alcohol and higher acidity than the 2013. It's a soft and approachable red, quite different from the idea people might have of the Aristos reds. RP
