Here the notably ripe nose isn't quite as fresh as several other of the equally ripe vintages though there is good layering to the aromas of poached plum, violet and warm earth. There is slightly better verve on the palate of the big-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that possess fine concentration before culminating in a lingering and decidedly firm finish where a touch of warmth slowly appears. Very generous wood stops just short of being dominant on the red pinot fruit, mocha, forest floor and newly turned earth. There is outstanding concentration to the big-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that brim with dry extract that serves to buffer the very firm but not really robust or especially austere finale. BH
